This weekend, Saturday Night Live found a surprisingly poignant way to capture the confusion and outrage that has taken place since Beyonce dropped her new video for Formation.

For a week now, people people have had heated debates about if her unapologetically pro-black anthem should be a source of pride or a grossly inappropriate display of “reverse racism.” The ongoing joke being that her white fan base now has to grapple with the stunning realization that Beyonce is indeed a black woman.

In the pre-filmed digital piece fashioned after a horror movie trailer, white people as a collective are seen screaming and running through the streets in horror as they struggle to make sense of the singer’s overt blackness.

Although this is meant to be satire, one could argue the line between art and fiction is even more blurred than usual on this one.
