A 10-year-old fashion designer said that she started making clothes because she was bullied for her weight.
Egypt Ufele, who goes by “Ify,” said that the kids at her school often picked on her. “I was bullied and they called me all kinds of names,” she recalled. “One time I got stabbed with a pencil.”
But rather than let the bullying get her down, Ufele started making dresses for her dolls by hand before she learned how to use a sewing machine and started making clothes for all body types.
Now, her designs are at New York Fashion Week, with a line called Chubiiline, which she says is about “bringing Africa to America, one design at a time.”
