Iowa man accused in racist assault, claims he’s ‘allergic to black people’

An Iowa man told police that he assaulted a black man while wearing a surgical mask because he was "allergic to black people."

An Iowa man told police that he assaulted a black man while wearing a surgical mask because he was “allergic to black people.”

Sunday, Andy Benavidez, allegedly attacked a black man while using racial slurs. When police caught up with him, Benavidez said that he wore the surgical mask so he wouldn’t catch germs from black people, according to CBS 2 Iowa.

Benavidez admitted to authorities that he only fought the victim because he was black, and has since been charged with a hate crime of assault in violation of individual rights.
