7 arrested in lottery winner’s murder just months after he won the jackpot

Following a lengthy investigation, seven people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a lottery winner, which took place 2 months ago and occurred shortly after he won the jackpot.

In the Nov. 29, 2015, Fantasy 5 drawing, Craigory Burch Jr., a former forklift driver, won a  $434,272 instant prize from the Georgia Lottery. However, he was killed only months later.

Authorities say that they believe three masked people stormed into Burch’s home to take his lottery winnings. Burch’s girlfriend, Jasmine Hendricks, was at home at the time and tried to run for help when a shotgun blast blew open the door.

“When they came in, he said, ‘Don’t do it, bro. Don’t do it in front of my kids,'” Hendricks recalled. “‘Please don’t do it in front of my kids and old lady. Please don’t do that, bro. Please don’t.’ He said, ‘I’ll give you my bank card.'”

Hendricks said that Burch removed his pants and threw them at the assailants, searching for and failing to find his wallet as the masked people demanded his winnings.

After a long investigation that captured national attention, seven people have been arrested in connection with the murder, and all have been charged with malice murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of firearm during the commission of the crime.
