Melissa Harris-Perry named Editor-at-Large for Elle.com

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Well, that didn’t take long at all. The woman who made her grand exit from MSNBC after having her TV time slot replaced one too many times has landed a new position. Melissa Harris-Perry is the new Editor-at-Large at Elle.com. Harris-Perry took to Twitter to announce the news Monday saying she was “honored” to join the team.

Harris-Perry had an ugly exit from MSNBC over what she claimed was a loss of editorial control over her eponymous show. One leaked email and a Twitter rant later, negotiations with the network failed, and the host said goodbye to #Nerdland.

Now as Editor-at-Large at Elle, Harris-Perry will continue promoting issues surrounding young women of color through interviews, videos and articles.

Elle.com’s site director, Leah Cheyrnikoff, said Harris-Perry brings a special expertise to the site.

“She will, as her work has always done, highlight the stories of women and girls — a reader might get to see an interview with a prominent female politician, a Black Lives Matter activist, or a celebrity,” she said. “Or they might read Melissa’s writings on topics ranging from feminism, intersectionality, and motherhood, to fashion and even gardening.”

Harris-Perry will also be working on her web series “Sole Search,” where she will go shoe shopping with women and girls of color.

She told CNN Money, “This gives me a chance to talk politics, but also culture, race, gender, and literally shoes.”

This news comes just one week before three Members of Congress launch their new Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls. The #BlackGirlMagic is at an all-time high right now, and we’re happy to see MHP is back in action.
