President Obama called Prince a “creative icon” in a statement released Thursday on the singer’s death.

The 57-year-old musician was found dead in his estate Thursday. First responders found him unresponsive in an elevator, according to an Associated Press report.

The president hailed the singer and guitarist as a “virtuoso instrumentalist, a brilliant bandleader, and an electrifying performer.”
