College student missing after telling her mom she was taking an Uber Share ride home

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

A Georgia State University student has been missing since Friday after she told her mother that she was going to take an Uber Share ride home.

Monique Priester had just left her stepfather’s home after a study group when she told her mother she was on her way.

“She said ‘Mom, I saw you called, I missed your call, everything OK?’” said her mother, Jacqueline VanLoo-Al Kush. “And I was like, yeah, where are you?”

Monique told her mother that she was getting an Uber ride home in order to save money, but she never returned home.

“I’m panicked. I’m hoping that she’s safe,” VanLee-Al Kush told WSB-TV.

While Uber has released a statement saying that they are working with police in this case, they did say that they would have to be subpoenaed before they would give up ride records, and police do not yet suspect foul play.

“We are working directly with local law enforcement to provide any assistance or information that could help them locate Ms. Priester and get her safely home,” the statement from Uber read.

But while police do not suspect foul play, Monique’s mother has asked them to be aware of the fact that Monique suffers from both depression and anxiety. “Don’t be dismissive just because of her age. Look at the entire circumstance,” VanLoo-Al Kush said.

Students who attend Georgia State with Monique say they are concerned because she is not answering calls.
