Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

One day after a shooting at a T.I. concert left one person dead and three injured, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said in an interview Thursday that rappers were “thugs.”

Bratton said that the shooting occurred in an atmosphere of “the crazy world of these so-called rap artists who are basically thugs that basically celebrate violence they did all their lives.”

“Unfortunately, that violence often times manifests itself during their performances,” he added.

He added that, even after rappers become famous, they  “continue hanging out with the same people they hung out with when they came out of that world of desperation, poverty, and crime.”
