On Monday afternoon, officials released video showing an attack on a Cincinnati officer that has been described as “vicious” and “violent.”

In two separate incidents, 25-year-old Jawari Porter can be seen threatening a security guard at a Kroger grocery store with a knife in his hand. In the video, Porter repeatedly points the knife at the neck of the security guard.  Porter had allegedly committed a robbery beforehand.

In the second video, Porter is seen crossing the street when a police cruiser pulls up with officer Anthony Brucato inside. Brucato is unable to get out of the car before Porter comes toward the open driver’s side door, appearing to have a knife in his hand. At that point in the video, the officer fires six bullets hitting Porter several times.

Porter was killed during the incident and Brucato has been cleared of any wrongdoing.

“This is a justified shooting. After threatening a Kroger store employee with a knife, he did not hesitate to try to stab a Cincinnati Police officer who did not even have an opportunity to get out of his vehicle,” said Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters, who added that nothing would be sent to the grand jury.

Jawari Porter had been found to be mentally ill and had formerly been in foster care with a scholarship to the University of Cincinnati.  Black Lives Matter Cincinnati and the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition condemned the shooting, blaming police and lack of mental health resources for Porter’s death.

“We contend the police-orchestrated escalation led to an avoidable killing,” their statement read.

The organization has asked for the City of Cincinnati pay for Porter’s funeral expenses and an indictment of Officer Brucato along with several other demands.
