Spelman College to consider admitting transgender women

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Spelman College is creating a task force to look into whether or not the school should admit transgender women.

The announcement was made in a “welcome back” letter penned by President Mary Schmidt Campbell to students at the all-female HBCU.  Spelman College is located in Atlanta Georgia and is celebrated for its high scholastics and many notable alum.

“Ingrid Hayes, vice president for Enrollment Management will convene a task force that makes a recommendation to the president on the admission and enrollment of transgender students,” the letter told students.

In addition to the task force on transgender students, a task force will be created at Spelman to “develop a set of protocols and procedures for students, faculty and staff to follow in the event of an emergency.”
