Marques Houston gets baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Singer Marques Houston gave us music to groove to in the 90’s as a child star, but these days, he’s giving fans a glimpse into his faith.

Over the weekend, the 35-year-old posted photos of his baptism as a Jehovah’s Witness. He took the big step at the Remain Loyal to Jehovah Convention, writing:

“8/13/16 The best day of my life!!! I got baptized today. I’ve never been this happy #JW Jehovah my God, thank you for allowing me the privilege to be one of your Witnesses now.”

Jehovah’s Witnesses are a Christian denomination with more than 8.2 million members worldwide. The group is known for distinct practices like evangelizing door-to-door at people’s homes, rejecting blood transfusions and not observing birthdays or other holidays considered to be pagan.

Houston is not the only black celebrity to find a spiritual practice as a Jehovah’s Witness. The late great music legend Prince became a Jehovah’s Witness in 2001.  Tennis star Serena Williams grew up as a Jehovah’s Witness, as did the music icons Notorious B.I.G and Michael Jackson.
