Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Black-ish star Anthony Anderson is coming to Birth of a Nation creator Nate Parker’s defense in the wake of controversy surrounding rape charges leveled against Parker 17 years ago.

Anderson said that Parker was “a great guy, an excellent filmmaker and a great actor.”

Anderson went on to say that he was not sure whether or not the rape allegations from 1999 would impact the release and success of Birth of a Nation, which is due to release in October.
