Footage shows police tried to run over black man before fatally shooting him

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Recently released dash cam footage has revealed that not only did two Sacramento, California, police officers fatally shoot a homeless African-American man but also they tried to run over him prior to the shooting.

The Sacremento Bee reports that one officer can be heard saying “f*** this guy” moments before the fatal shooting, just before the driver says, “I’m going to hit him.”

“OK. Go for it. Go for it,” says his partner.

Then, Officers Randy Lozoya and John Tennis drove their car right at Joseph Mann before backing up to turn and drive toward him again. When they stopped the car and got out, they then shot Mann 14 times.

Although dispatchers reported that Mann had a knife and a gun, police never did find a gun on Mann.

The shooting has provoked outrage, even from one of the officers’ brothers.

“They are officers that shouldn’t be in uniform,” said Robert Mann, Joseph Mann’s brother, according to the Bee. “If this is their state of mind when they go to work, this doesn’t serve anyone well.”

The officers have since been named in a lawsuit filed by the city by members of Mann’s family.
