North Carolina cop violently arrests black man for sitting on his porch

On Monday, the city council of Greensboro, North Carolina, voted unanimously to permanently sanction an officer who was caught on camera in June arrested a black man who was sitting on his porch waiting for his mother.

The officer, Travis Cole, has been stripped of his law enforcement credentials, and although the council pushed for criminal charges to be filed, the district attorney refused to pursue them.

In body camera footage, Cole can be seen confronting Dejuan Yourse, who explains to the police that he is waiting on his mother’s porch for her to let him in. His mother, he explains, has lived in the neighborhood for 10 years, and he visits her house every day.

The video shows Yourse attempting to call his mother so she can tell the officers that she lives there. He also attempts to give them his ID, which lists the address as his residence.

As the situation escalates, Yourse can be heard telling someone on the phone that “the police is over here and they harassing me.”

Cole then snatches the phone from Yourse and throws him to the floor to try and handcuff him. Yourse can be heard repeatedly asking why he is being hit even as Cole shouts, “I’m going to hit you again.”
