Solange has scared her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart with her latest album, A Seat at the Table.

The album launched the week of October 6 and defied expectation with 72,000 equivalent album units and beat out Bon Iver’s 22, A Million for the top spot, which sol 71,000.

Solange’s new album ‘A Seat At The Table’ is food for the black soul

The sales were far higher than initial predictions, which put Solange at 60,000 and at at lest 5,000 behind 22, A Million. But after her album’s release, Solange just saw sales continuing to climb, and by the week’s end, she had surpassed not only Bon Iver but also expectations.

This is especially impressive because Solange didn’t even announce her album until Sept. 27, only three days before it hit streaming services and digital retailers. It will be released in physical form on November 18.

This means that both Solange and Beyonce have scored No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart, making the two of them one of the select few pairs of siblings to accomplish such a feat. Other sibling pairs that have seen this kind of success include Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson as well as Master P and Silkk the Shocker.
