NYPD female officer settles sexual harassment suit for $535,000

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

A female NYPD officer settled her sexual harassment lawsuit against the city, her former sergeant and another police officer at a Brooklyn precinct for $535,000.

Ann Cardenas claimed in her suit that Sgt. David John regularly spoke to her in graphic sexual terms such as calling her his “work p—y” and asking her, in front of others, to “sit on his face.”

In another incident, when speaking to one of her friends, he said, “You’re ugly but I’ll still f–k you.”

Cardenas claimed that not only was she subjected to verbal harassment, John also physically touched her without consent when he grabbed and smacked her on the buttocks, forcibly kissed her and even simulated ejaculation.

“John told Ms. Cardenas that he had pictures of all the female officers, including her, and that he liked her Halloween costume that she posted on Facebook and that he masturbated to the picture,” the suit claimed, referring to a photo of her in a catsuit.

John retired in 2014, but the alleged abuse did not stop there. Officer Angel Colon began to harass her, squeezing her buttocks and telling her that he would “rape her in a good way.”

The case settled for the disclosed amount this week, one month after Brooklyn Federal Judge Ann Donnelly ruled that John and Colon could be held personally liable for any monetary judgment against them.

The breakdown of the judgment has the city paying $500,000, John paying $20,000 and Colon paying $15,000.

Law Department spokesman Nick Paolucci stated, “The settlement in principle that exists at this point is in the best interests of the city.”

The city did not provide any legal defense to the two police officers.
