South Carolina woman shot in head while attending sister-in-law’s funeral

Jacobia Lane, of South Carolina, was shot and killed while she was staying with family for her sister-in-law's funeral.

A South Carolina woman was shot and killed while she was staying with family for her sister-in-law’s funeral.

Jacobia Lane had come up to Gastonia, North Carolina, for the funeral and was staying with her relatives when she was shot in the head early Saturday. A gunman opened fire on the home where she was staying with a high-powered rifle, and she was hit in the back of the head and killed. Her husband, who was sleeping on the second floor, was not injured, but a bullet did hit his pillow.

According to police, the gunman fired about 30 bullets from the high-powered rifle, but no one has yet been arrested in relation to this incident.

Family spokesman Christopher Dennis called the shooting a “senseless unprovoked act of violence.”

“This is not someone who goes out and does wrong,” Timothy English, Lane’s brother, told WSOC-TV. “She (Jacobia) is someone who loves her family.”

Her husband, Willie Lane, said that he was not angry with the shooter but wanted him “to come forward and face justice.” To that end, the family has offered $1,000 to anyone who comes forward with information that would lead to an arrest.
