Michael McCary and Boys II Men parted ways in 2003, and now, McCary is admitting on “Iyanla: Fix My Life” that the split came after he found out that he has multiple sclerosis.

“I have MS,” he said. “It sent me into a depression.”

“It was like little back spasms at first, and then they would get stronger and stronger. Each time it would get more harsh,” McCary recalled of the moment he realized that he was having problems. “Once I was about 22, it started going to full-scale.”

He went on to say that he was incredibly disheartened by what doctors told him about his condition.

“They were saying that I have a nerve around the sciatica that was locked in place that could sever if I stepped wrong,” he said. “It’s a possibility that you could be paralyzed.”

He went on to explain that he kept his medical condition secret, a decision that likely did not help his feelings of betrayal and abandonment when his fellow Boys II Men stars didn’t give him the support he was hoping for.

McCrary along with five other men will be appearing on an episode airing Nov. 5 at 9 p.m. ET on OWN.
