Early Wednesday, former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke celebrated Donald Trump’s victory on Twitter.

Duke, who also ran for the Senate in Louisiana but whose bid for the Senate seat was unsuccessful, called the election night “one of the most exciting nights of my life.”

“Make no mistake about it, our people have played a HUGE role in electing Trump!” he wrote on Twitter.

The Trump campaign has recently been attempting to distance itself from the white nationalists and Klansmen who have endorsed him, and Eric Trump said earlier this month that Duke “deserves a bullet.”
