While Representative Keith Ellison has not outright said that he will be running for chair of the Democratic National Committee, he did say that he had an announcement to make on Monday about the DNC question.

Ellison made the remark during a conference call hosted by the liberal advocacy group Democracy for America on Thursday. During the call, DFA executive Charles Chamberlain asked Ellison for his thoughts on the DNC, and although he noted that he didn’t expect an answer right away, he did ask whether or not Ellison would consider running for the position.

“I will announce that I’m going to make an announcement on Monday. So there you go,” Ellison said.

“Let me just say this: the key has got to be a turnout-based, grassroots-based Democratic Party that uses relationship-building, one to one,” Ellison said, citing “relationship building at the grassroots level” as the key to rebuilding the DNC.

On Thursday, former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, a former DNC chairman announced his plans to run for the position, and other Democrats are expected to throw their hats in the ring. The current chair, Donna Brazile, has said that she does not want to stay in the position permanently, which has opened the doors to new possibilities.
