“An overdue book should NEVER result in a warrant,” she added before tagging Smithfield County library, North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper to say, “This is a legal scam.”

What’s more, Sumpter said that her mother actually returned the book, but it was never entered into the system.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office, for its part, said that Acquista was arrested for a bad check, though it was not immediately clear if the bad check was related to the library book or not.
