Cops beat black man until he goes blind in one eye

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

A black Michigan man has filed suit against police after he claimed they strapped him to a chair and beat him until he was left blind in one eye.

Frankie Taylor was arrested for a DUI, but the police officers’ actions after the arrest were caught on tape.

“If you keep acting like a child, you’re going to get strapped in that chair and you’re going to stay there,” one officer says in the video.

The officers strap Taylor to a chair and threaten to tase him before another officer can be seen putting on gloves before beating Taylor until he lost consciousness, repeating “stop resisting” between blows.

Taylor’s attorney James Rasor said that Taylor was not given medical treatment and was instead transferred to Macomb County Jail the next day. He was eventually admitted to the hospital, but it was too late to save his vision in one eye.

“He has permanent loss of eyesight in one eye. His vision is severely compromised,” said Rasor. “He has these horrible nightmares.”

What’s more, Rasor said that Taylor was never allowed a phone call.

“You want to protect people from this type of brutality by police forces,” said Rasor. “White folks were allowed to use the phone by police officers; even one who had urinated in his pants was allowed to use the phone. Frankie Taylor wasn’t, and the only difference is that Frankie Taylor happens to be African-American.”
