Now, this is the kind of Oscars list we've been waiting to see.

Now, this is the kind of Oscars list we’ve been waiting to see.

Black Hollywood absolutely dominated the Oscar nominations this year, especially in the category of Best Supporting Actress, which saw three African-American women in the field: Viola Davis for Fences, Octavia Spencer for Hidden Figures, and Naomie Harris for Moonlight.

Ruth Negga also snagged a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Loving, while Denzel Washington was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for Fences. Barry Jenkins is up for Best Director for Moonlight, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role saw a nomination for Mahershala Ali in Moonlight.

Moonlight is also up for Best Picture and faces stiff competition against Hollywood favorite La La Land. Fences and Hidden Figures are also nominated in that category.

Additionally, the Best Documentary category saw the likes of Ava DuVernay’s 13th, OJ: Made in America, and I am Not Your Negro.
