75-year-old woman survives mid-air tornado ride

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Charlesetta Williams and her son heard the news about the approaching storm and sought refuge in her bathroom. She and her son climbed into her bathtub on Saturday night to hide from the storm, and that decision led to a wild ride in a tornado inside that very tub.

Rickey Williams, her son, was the one to suggest that they take shelter in the bathtub, since tubs are sturdy and tend to be well-anchored. However, while they were hiding in the bathroom, the tornado hit, and the tub was lifted up into the air.

“I can’t tell you how high we were. It just felt like someone placed us on the ground,” he said.

Moments later, they were sprawled out on the ground 20 feet from each other. Rickey crawled to his mother to lay across her to shield her from the debris, then asked her if she was OK.

“Yes, but I can’t breathe because you’re suffocating me,” she replied. And she was, in fact, just fine, only suffering cuts and bruises from the experience.

“I’m blessed,” she told KYTX of her miraculous survival. “I couldn’t live through another one. I’d have a heart attack.”
