Hidden Figures and La La Land are both up for Best Picture awards this weekend, and ahead of the Oscar Awards night, Hidden Figures has just pulled ahead to become this year’s highest-grossing Best Picture nominee.

Over the weekend, Hidden Figures brought its box office total up to $119.4 million, above La La Land’s $118.3 million.

The movie is doing more than just bring in money; it’s inspiring girls everywhere and bringing the spotlight to a story that should be told more often: the stories of the black Americans who were just as much a part of history as everyone else and just weren’t recognized.

Hidden Figures is already enjoying huge success; now we’ll just have to see how the Oscars go.
