Tamron Hall was the inspiration for ‘Being Mary Jane’

Tamron Hall, who recently announced her departure from MSNBC News, was apparently the inspiration for BET's Being Mary Jane.

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Tamron Hall, who recently announced that she would be leaving NBC after being pushed out of the third hour of the Today Show, was apparently the inspiration for BET’s Being Mary Jane.

In expressing her disappointment that Hall would be leaving the network, TV writer-producer Mara Brock Akil, who created Being Mary Jane, said of Hall, “Tamron’s a woman of integrity, and she’s writing her own story.”

Akil used Hall as the muse in creating the titular character for Being Mary Jane and continues her support for and awe of Hall even with this move.

As Megyn Kelly enters NBC, the network has announced that the former Fox News host will displace the third hour, either taking it over herself or taking the fourth hour slot, with Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb taking the third hour position if that is the case.

“The last ten years have been beyond anything I could have imagined, and I’m grateful,” Hall said of her decision to leave. “I’m also very excited about the next chapter. To all my great colleagues, I will miss you and I will be rooting for you.”
