Trey Songz explains why he destroyed set during Detroit concert

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Remember in December when Trey Songz destroyed his set during a concert in Detroit?

Well, now he’s speaking out on just why he did that. Apparently, all the equipment he destroyed was his own, and he felt perfectly within his rights to trash it, since the people who cut him off worked for him.

“The stage thing in Detroit, there’s so many layers to that,” he explained. “Because actually, what a lot of people don’t understand is what happened was the people who cut my music off actually worked for me.”

“And they started my show three minutes late and ended five minutes early,” he continued.

“I’m playing the game, I see the clock, I know very well what time is allowed. So I wasn’t supposed to be cut off,” he added.

At the time in Detroit, Trey Songz had promised to “go insane” if his mic was turned off, and when the mic was, in fact, cut off, he followed through on that promise, trashing the set and the equipment.

But he insisted that the equipment was his and that, as Charlamagne tha God said during the interview, “You wanted your eight minutes.”

He said that he didn’t regret it, even joking about the press, “They love my mugshot.”
