Columbia University accidentally sends 277 acceptance letters

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

On Wednesday, Columbia University mistakenly sent out acceptance letters to 277 potential graduate students at the Mailman School of Public Health.

On Friday, the Ivy League school explained that the emails “incorrectly implied they had been accepted” and that follow-up emails explaining the mistake had been sent out within the hour. They apologized for what they called “human error” and said that they “regret the stress and confusion caused by this mistake.”

Vice Dean for Education Julie Kornfeld also promised that the university would strengthen and shore up its procedures to be sure that no other prospective students would have their futures so toyed with.
