‘He is evil’: Alabama teen only faces 3 years for killing great-grandmother

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

A 13-year-old boy reportedly showed no remorse after shooting his own great-grandmother, but he is also facing only 3 years for the slaying.

Mary Williams Faulk, 68, was found shot dead in her home in Semmes, Alabama, Thursday afternoon, and the 13-year-old was arrested with two accomplices, a 15-year-old as well as 19-year-old Erick James Toomer.

The three teens were found after police were put on alert when Faulk’s car was reported missing and presumed to be stolen. A sheriff’s deputy spotted the car on a dirt road in the woods, at which point the three of them fled on foot. Police set up a perimeter and caught all three after sweeping through the woods.

“We can affirmatively say that he pulled the trigger,” said Mobile County Sheriff’s Office Captain Paul Burch, adding that he was floored by how cold the 13-year-old was about the crime.

“My conversation with him showed a very evil person, and in 28 years I have not seen someone like that,” Burch said. “He was not remorseful in the least.”

“The other teens were a little more remorseful, but he [the 13-year-old] showed absolutely nothing.”

However, because the law requires defendants to be 14 before being tried as an adult, the 13-year-old can only face 3 years for the crime.
