North Carolina grand jury declines to charge officer for body slamming student
According to Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman, a grand jury has declined to bring charges against North Carolina high school resource officer Ruben De Los Santos after a video showed him throwing a 15-year-old female student to the ground.
In the footage taken on January 3rd, a group of students can be seen standing around when De Los Santos suddenly picks up the young girl and body slams her to the floor. The teen was initially returned to class following the scuffle. However, she was later taken to the hospital for treatment of a concussion.

Following the incident, Rolesville Police Chief Langston asked the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation to look into the altercation. The Wake County Grand Jury has now decided to close the investigation without any further action.
“Our law enforcement officers are engaged daily in difficult interactions where they often are required to intervene,” said Fereman. “As they strive to maintain the peace and protect our community, it’s important that proper and legal boundaries on the use of force are followed. I commend Chief of Police Bobby Langston for his willingness to invite an unbiased review of this matter and for his commitment to maintaining the public trust of his community.”
De Los Santos resigned from the Rolesville Police Department earlier this month.
