Trump brags about 20K jobs that were planned a year before his election

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

Donald Trump met with Charter Communications CEO Thomas Rutledge at the White House and then announced that the company said it will hire another 20,000 people and invest $25 billion in the United States.

“Today I am thrilled to announce that Charter Communications has just committed to investing $25 billion… here in the United States and has committed further to hiring 20,000 American workers over the next four years,” Trump boasted on Friday. He also stated that Charter has committed to closing all their offshore call centers.

The problem is that this was a project that was agreed to and put in motion long before Trump took office. In fact, it made this hiring goal public back in the spring of 2015.

Charter had announced its plan to acquire Time Warner Cable in May, 2015. They then spent a year trying to get regulators to approve, and in order ensure this happened, they pledged to hire 20,000 more American workers as early as June 2015.

In May 2016, the FCC specifically mentioned this promise when they approved the merger.

“The Applicants commit to increase customer care through domestic investment and in-sourced jobs, and claim that New Charter would bring thousands of overseas Time Warner Cable jobs back to the United States,” the agency said. “They explain that many, if not most of the overseas jobs would be brought in-house, where the Applicants would provide significant training, benefits, and opportunities for advancement, which would add to the skill level and economic fabric of local communities.”

When the Charter spokesperson was asked if that was the same announcement that was made today, they said, “We have spoken about our plans to hire 20k before but it wasn’t a commitment. Today we committed to a time frame of four years for those hires.”

That is not what the FCC document says however. “Charter commits that New Charter would continue this in-sourcing strategy with respect to field technician positions within the Time Warner Cable and Bright House footprints,” it reads.

On Friday, Trump claimed that other American companies have created jobs all because of him being president.

“You’re going to see thousands and thousands and thousands of jobs, and companies, and everything coming back into our country,” he swore. “They’re coming in even far faster than even I had projected.”

Unfortunately for Trump, the facts don’t show this has anything to do with him. Nearly all of the deals he has been boasting about were in the works for years, long before he became POTUS.
