Though the Mississippi State women's basketball team was unable to clinch the NCAA championship win, they got a special congratulations from Robin Roberts.

Luther Vandross was outed as gay after his death.

The Mississippi State women’s basketball team’s historic upset of Connecticut didn’t go unnoticed by Robin Roberts.

“Even before this game,” Roberts said, “I’m so incredibly proud of you. I’m proud of your courage, your strength, your grace, your beauty, your talent, your coaching staff, your fans, all of it. I am a proud Mississippian.”

She then continued, “All I’m going to say is … bless you. Keep listening to the staff, keep listening to your heart, and I have never… I can’t remember the last time I’ve been this happy and this proud.”

“Thank you,” she added. “Thank you for carrying it on, no, thank you for elevating women’s basketball the way you have.”

Before becoming an anchor on Good Morning America, Roberts was a sportscaster for ESPN and was even offered a scholarship to play basketball at Louisiana State University, though she did not accept the offer.
