Mel B took out a restraining order against her estranged husband, Stephen Belafonte, claiming that she and her children are in fear for their lives.

On Monday, Mel B took out a restraining order against her estranged husband, Stephen Belafonte, claiming that she and her children are in fear for their lives from him.

According to TMZ, she alleged that she had been the victim of several instances of abuse during their marriage. For example, in November 2007, as she was preparing for her Dancing With the Stars finale, Belafonte allegedly put his hands around her neck and slammed her into the hardwood floor as he began choking her. She said that this was part of a pattern and that any time she had success in her life, he would “beat me down to let me know he was in charge.”

Mel B, real name Melanie Brown, also said that in July 2012, Belafonte went into a jealous rage after she filmed a segment with Usher on the singing competition show “X Factor.” Belafonte, she alleges, punched her with a closed fist, splitting her lip. When she asked how was she supposed to work with the injury, he allegedly said she should have thought about that before decided to “flirt and f**k Usher.”

Brown also alleged that Belafonte would force her into three-ways with him and other women and that when she tried to resist, he would threaten to release sex tapes. She said that when she tried to leave, multiple times, he “threatened me with violence and threatened to destroy my life in every possible way … destroy my career and take my kids from me.”

Additionally, she claimed that at one point Belafonte got the nanny pregnant and at first wanted “all three of us live together” before ultimately demanding that the nanny have an abortion.

In addition to the restraining order requiring Belafonte to stay away from Mel B and her children, Belafonte was ordered to leave the family home.
