Vy Higginsen’s Mama Foundation for the Arts is launching The Harlem Gospel Concert Series to honor gospel legends and celebrate gospel music on April 15. During the concert series’ first show, Dr. Cissy Houston will be honored.

“It’s great to be a part of the grand opening of the Harlem Gospel Concert Series,” Houston said.  “I am grateful and humbled that they chose to honor me. Vy continues to do great things in the community and aboard. What an honor!”

While Houston has a decorated singing career and has performed both on film and on stage, she is probably best known as the mother of Whitney Houston, the Queen of Pop.

The Harlem Gospel Concert Series will begin on April 15 but will continue into May, with celebrations planned for the first three Saturdays in May.
