Barack Obama receives ‘Profile in Courage’ award
The former president accepted the “Profile in Courage” award from the John F. Kennedy Library and didn't hold back in a speech in defense of his legacy.
On Sunday, Former President Barack Obama accepted the “Profile in Courage” award from the John F. Kennedy Library and didn’t hold back in a speech in defense of his legacy.
During his speech, Obama urged lawmakers to put aside party loyalty and partisanship and to care for the less fortunate instead.
“It actually doesn’t take a lot of courage to aid those who are already powerful,” Obama said. “It does take courage to champion the vulnerable, and the sick and the infirm.”
Although Obama never mentioned President Donald Trump by name, this speech was his most direct challenge to the new administration and came just days after Republicans passed the American Health Care Act (AHCA), which was targeted to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), sometimes called Obamacare, as the Republican’s chief political goal.
