NAACP leader disappears after posting cryptic Facebook video
Elizabeth “Liz” Ana Smith, president of the Eureka branch of the NAACP in Northern California, has not been seen since Monday, and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office has been leading a frantic search for her.
At around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, Smith posted a video to Facebook saying that she had not slept since Mother’s Day and that “I am in heaven because I have been crucified.”
The video was 28 minutes long and mentions her departure from the Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods. She was the CEO there until March, when she was placed on indefinite administrative leave. She resigned from her post in April. In the video, she made several accusations against members of the organization, echoing a letter that she had sent earlier to the organization in which she accused them of mismanagement and discrimination, according to The Eureka Times-Standard.
According to the sheriff’s office, Smith’s friends are described as being “concerned … she possibly wants to harm herself.” As the search for Smith continues, authorities have asked that anyone who has information on Smith or her whereabouts contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 445-7251.
