Malcolm-Jamal Warner is a father.
Phynjuar Thomas, a friend of the “Cosby Show” star, said of the news, “I am elated over Malcolm’s new child.”
“I love him,” she continued, noting that the baby was a week old and that “I hope they name the baby after me. Phynjuar is a beautiful name.”
Thomas’ daughter, Michelle Thomas, played Warner’s girlfriend on “The Cosby Show” and dated the actor in real life as well. He was there for her at her side when she died of cancer in 1998 and has remained friends with Phynjuar since that time.
As for the mother of Warner’s child, she is reportedly an attorney from Bridgeport, and the New York Daily News reported that they are “very much in love.”
The fact that Warner is a father could explain why he hasn’t been seen at the trial of his on-screen TV father, Bill Cosby. Cosby has been facing trial for allegations of sexual assault made by Andrea Constand, who claimed that he drugged and assaulted her. He has attended the trial with other comedians at his side, including “Cosby Show” star Keisha Knight-Pulliam, but Warner has apparently been busy being a new father in addition to his own work.
