Commerce Police Chief Kerry Crews, who came under fire when he arrested a Black beauty queen in May and called her a “black b***h,” has resigned.

According to FOX4, Crews offered his resignation during a city council meeting after the law firm that had investigated his actions presented their findings.

Carmen Ponder, who was crowned Miss Black Texas 2016, claimed that Crews had called her a “black b***h” and also claimed that Crews had allowed his 14-year-old daughter to drive a car.

Ponder had been charged with evading arrest, though that charge was later dropped. She claimed that her arrest was racially motivated, though investigation by the City of Commerce concluded that there was “no evidence that the arrest was racially motivated.”

Crews said he was wrong in a statement that was read by the mayor, though he was not present when it was read. He stated that he resigned because of the stress of the job, but he will be continuing his work at a new job as Commerce city manager.

“This is an exciting time to be in Commerce,” Crews said. “I am excited to continue to be able to contribute to the city in this new role.”
