Officer Tommy Norman no longer allowed to post on social media while on-duty
North Little Rock police officer Tommy Norman is known for posting videos on social media while he is on duty showing positive interactions with the community.
He has received support after helping a pregnant homeless woman and her baby, and posted about a domestic violence situation in which he intervened and was amazed by people who were willing to “make a difference to change this family’s life.”
But in a recent post by Norman, he revealed he was no longer allowed to post videos because of a policy stating that officers could not post videos while on-duty and showing their badge.
“There’s a policy in effect at the police department that prohibits you from posting on-duty that is now going to be enforced,” he said in the video message.
“Don’t give up on me, I was born to do this,” he added before ending the video.
However, the North Little Rock Police Department said that they did not tell Norman to stop posting but merely made him aware of the social media policy that all his posts would have to be approved by the Media Relations Unit.
“The department greatly supports the work that Officer Norman has done and will continue to do in our community,” the police department said in a statement.
