Fake street signs highlight police shootings in Minneapolis

A fake street sign in Minneapolis and St. Paul has caught social media attention for highlighting police shootings.

The street sign says: “WARNING: TWIN CITIES POLICE EASILY STARTLED” in official-looking orange and a font like other street signs use, screwed into a metal pole the same way other street signs would be. The graphic shows a silhouette of a police officer looking startled and firing both guns.

At least two signs were seen on Sunday in the Twin Cities and are apparently referencing the death of Justine Diamond. Diamond was killed by Mohamed Noor, a Minneapolis police officer, and Noor’s partner said that just before Noor fired, he heard a loud sound.

Joe Morino snapped a picture of one of the street signs and had to admit, “There’s a side of truth to the sign. That tells you there is something wrong with the system.”

When reached on Sunday afternoon, St. Paul Police spokesman Steve Linders said that he had not heard about the signs. Corey Schmidt, spokesman for the Minneapolis Police Department, also stated that he had seen the St. Paul sign because of a post on Facebook but was unaware that there was another sign like it in Minneapolis.
