Rev. Al Sharpton’s daughter has been arrested for attacking a cab driver after a birthday celebration in Midtown, New York.

Ashley Sharpton, 30, is now facing charges of petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property after she allegedly took the keys from a cabbie and punched and shoved him when he demanded she hand them back.

“She told me it didn’t happen the way they said it happened but I can’t speak for a 30-year-old woman,” Rev. Al Sharpton said about the incident.

It happened at about 1 am when Sharpton and three friends got into the cab but all gave him different destinations.

He stopped the car so that the friends could decide just where it was they were going. That is when Sharpton, who happened to be sitting in the front seat, got out of the car and threw away the keys. The cab driver did not see that she had thrown them.

He told her to give the keys back and she began to shove him, say police sources. Then Sharpton ran away. Police caught her two hours later and she was taken into custody.

She was given a desk appearance ticket and permitted to leave.

According to Al Sharpton’s Twitter account, Friday was his daughter’s 30th birthday celebration.

“Happy Birthday to my youngest, Ashley,” Rev. Al Sharpton wrote. “A strong black woman and committed activist. So proud to be your Dad.”
