Jordin Sparks stages silent protest during national anthem

During the Cowboys-Cardinals game on Monday night, Jordin Sparks staged a silent protest of her own even as she sang the national anthem before the game.

While she performed, Sparks had the Bible reference “Prov 31: 8-9” written on her hand. The verses themselves read: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”

The silent protest seems to be a gesture of solidarity for the many athletes who have been protesting discrimination and police brutality in the United States by kneeling during the national anthem.

Similarly, on Sunday, during the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons game, singer Rico Lavelle took a knee and raised a fist as he finished singing the national anthem.
