On Wednesday, President Donald Trump refused to answer reporters’ questions as to whether or not he owed Myeshia Johnson, the widow of Sgt. La David Johnson, an apology.
Instead, the president, speaking at the White House, claimed that he had “one of the great memories of all time” and that therefore his account of the conversation he had with her was more reliable than hers.
“I was extremely nice to her. I’ve never met her, but she sounds likes a lovely lady,” Trump said.

He also went on to pat himself on the back for calling all of the families of those soldiers killed in Niger during an ambush that claimed the lives of four service members.
Trump has come under fire for his comments to Johnson’s widow, after he reportedly told her that her husband “knew what he signed up for.” The remarks were first made public by Rep. Frederica Wilson, who was in the car with Myeshia Johnson at the time of the call, but the White House has vehemently denied that version of events.
Myeshia Johnson herself, however, has corroborated Wilson’s account, stating that she cried after Trump spoke to her.
