Fifty-six female Democratic lawmakers wrote a letter asking the House oversight committee to investigate the accusations of sexual assault being leveled against President Donald Trump, and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand even went so far as to call for his resignation.

As the Democratic Women’s Working Group wrote in their letter, “At least 17 women have publicly accused the President of sexual misconduct. We cannot ignore the multitude of women who have come forward with accusations.”

The president took to Twitter appearing to hit back against those accusations, writing, “Despite thousands of hours wasted and many millions of dollars spent, the Democrats have been unable to show any collusion with Russia – so now they are moving on to the false accusations and fabricated stories of women who I don’t know and/or have never met. FAKE NEWS!”

However, it was Gillibrand that he went after personally, even suggesting that she “would do anything” for campaign contributions.

“Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office ‘begging’ for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!” the president tweeted.

Trump did give $1,050 to her official campaign Gillibrand For Congress and $2,100 to the Gillibrand Victory Fund political action committee in 2007. However, she reportedly only met with him once, with Ivanka Trump present for the meeting.

Gillibrand has since responded to Trump, saying “you cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office.”

The outcry against Trump’s tweet about Gillibrand has reached across the Democratic party, particularly because of the sexual implications of the tweet.

“Responding to allegations of sexual misconduct by trying to publicly shame yet another woman, the president has shown us exactly what kind of person he is. Donald Trump has proven to be a poison for the presidency, a cancer on the country, and a truly disgraceful human being,” Democratic Kentucky Rep. John Yarmuth added.

“Are you really trying to bully, intimidate and slut-shame @SenGillibrand? Do you know who you’re picking a fight with? Good luck with that, @realDonaldTrump. Nevertheless, #shepersisted,” Massachusetts Sen. wrote on Twitter.
