Beyoncé statue at Madame Tussauds is “adjusted” after backlash

There is a new Beyoncé in town but chances are good you won’t recognize her. She is made of wax and currently resides at the Midtown Manhattan location of Madame Tussauds.

On Thursday, the statue was nowhere to be found on the display floor but that didn’t keep her from making the rounds on social media. A photo of her surfaced popped up on social media this week and it led to backlash.

There were two problems with the statue. She looked white and didn’t resemble the singer in any other way either.

By Friday afternoon she was back on the display floor with some upgrades. Amani Wingfield, a visitor said she was able to recognize the new one right off.

“I think it’s closer than the other one,” she stated. “Most definitely. We walked in and we were like, ‘Hey, it’s Beyoncé!’”

Madame Tussauds New York had sent out an email on Thursday that said, “Our talented team of sculptors take every effort to ensure we accurately color match all of our wax figures to the celebrity being depicted.

“Lighting within the attraction combined with flash photography may distort and misrepresent the color of our wax figures, which is something our sculptors are unable to account for at the production stage,” it read.

Whether or not the brief absence from the floor was due to the backlash, the museum has not said but on Friday they released another statement that read, “We love, respect and enjoy a working relationship with Beyoncé. We have adjusted the styling and lighting of her figure and she is on display” at the New York location.
