Last Tuesday black talk show host and commentator Tavis Smiley criticized Rev. Al Sharpton over a New York Times article in which Sharpton was quoted as saying that he feels the president is wise not to “ballyhoo” a black agenda. Their dispute turned public when Sharpton and Smiley traded barbs on the Tom Joyner Morning Show and then later on Sharpton’s radio show. Sharpton contends that his statement to the NY Times doesn’t mean that the president shouldn’t focus on black issues, but that it should not be Obama’s lone interest.

Al Sharpton and theGrio’s Dr. Boyce Watkins went on MSNBC to discuss Smiley, the dispute and the issues President Obama should address within the African-American community.
