Demand for flights in America takes nosedive since Trump election

An analysis of travel search data has shown that, in the wake of Donald Trump winning the United States presidency, interest in travel to America has taken a nosedive.

According to data from kayak.co.uk, the United States, which is usually a hot spot for holiday travel for Brits, has seen a 9 percent dive in interest for travel to the States from Great Britain, with a 30 percent drop worldwide.

Meanwhile, interest in travel from the United States to other country has seen an uptick, with flights from the United States to Russia, France and the United Kingdom seeing a steady rise. Russia has seen a 33 percent increase in searches for travel there, while France has seen a 29 percent increase and the United Kingdom a 19 percent increase.

“It’s always interesting when our travel data can demonstrate a wider trend and this is very much the case here,” said Suzanne Perry, travel expert at Kayak.co.uk. “With 1.5 billion searches conducted on Kayak websites every year, the impact of US elections on the USA as a destination is very significant — we’re talking big numbers here. The data demonstrates that since the election result, demand and interest in going to the States really has nosedived. And the increase in searches from the US would indicate that many who are currently based there are looking to get a break from reality.”
