Cleveland police are getting a little financial help from a local businessman, to find the the gunman who killed a 16-year-old and wounded several other teenagers at a Unity Day event. Ken Lanci has offered to add $5000 to the current Cleveland reward, making the grand total $7000.

The festivities had just come to an end, at the the Family Unity in the Park Festival at Luke Easter Park, when shots came flying from a nearby store. That’s were, according to authorities, two men used gunfire to end their heated argument.

Although 80 police officers were assigned to the event, and only one arrest was made at the festivities, the violence at last weekend’s Unity Festival has caused concern about the safety of upcoming city and neighborhood festivals in Cleveland, which are a staple during the mid to late summer season.

Upcoming event organizers are working overtime to ensure the public’s safety and have created stronger bonds with local police and patrol companies who have volunteered their services. All in an effort to beef up security at scheduled outdoor events.

“You can bring the whole family to our Festival,” said Frank Colon, who is helping to organize the Puerto Rican Festival and Parade, scheduled for next weekend, at Cleveland Municipal Parking Lot.

“We have Cleveland Police going to be there,” Colon told WKYC. “We have special security, so wherever you go there, whatever you do, you’re plenty safe. You’re safe. One hundred percent.”
