Imani McCray, 8, hanged herself after parents put her on timeout
An 8-year-old girl in New Jersey killed herself on Sunday night, and investigators are still trying to determine what drove her to commit suicide.
Imani McCray had been sent to a timeout shortly before she hung herself, and family members worked hard to try to revive her before emergency responders arrived. The paramedics were able to find a faint pulse, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the University Hospital in Newark.

Investigators are not sure what role the story of a 10-year-old Colorado girl named Ashawnty Davis played in Imani’s suicide. Ashawnty’s story was all over the media after she killed herself as a result of bullying less than a week before Imani killed herself, but investigators do not believe that Imani was the victim of bullying.
It is not clear if this is a case of tragic playacting, a copycat suicide, or something else. Investigators are still looking into it.
