This weekend the first part of George Lucas’ Star Wars epic returns to the big screen, this time in 3-D. With the movie’s reissue comes a perhaps unwelcome return of a controversial (and many have argued, offensive) character — Jar Jar Binks. The Press-Telegram reports:

Jar Jar Binks is probably the most reviled character in film history – and he’s not a bad guy or even played by a human actor.

In case you’ve forgotten, Jar Jar first appeared in George Lucas’ 1999 film “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,” which is being released today in 3-D.

To be fair, the computer- generated equine-looking character with long ears, eyes that stick out, little forehead and who speaks in high- pitched pidgin English (voiced by Ahmed Best) was supposed to be the comic relief.

But really? Do we need Jar Jar in 3-D?
